A Little Touch of Nature

A bit of greenery never hurt, in fact it actually brings an element of life to the room. When the colour scheme of the room is already bright the plant adds a new element of life. If the colour scheme is more neutral the plant adds colour without clashing with the colour scheme.

Add a Sheepskin Rug

A sheepskin (or faux sheepskin) rug is a simple way to make any room look cosier. You can place the rug on sofas and beds or put them on the floor but either way they’ll bring a cosy look to the room. We've found some of the best places to house a sheepskin rug include the living room, bedroom and home offices. A very underrated decorative item for homes!

Decorate with Photos

Decorating your home with photos is an easy way to add a personal touch to your home and it’s a touch that you’re going to love. The personal aspect of photos creates a warmth to your home that not much else could bring because what’s more personal and unique than memories in a frame.

Remove the Clutter

Keeping your room clean and tidy is an easy way to keep your home looking great. Decluttering can make your house look bigger and it is nicer for everyone to look at since there’s no extra items taking the spotlight away from your prettier belongings.

Swap Curtains for Blinds

Swapping curtains for blinds can be a great way to make your room stand out. Curtains can look bulky or can go against the layout of the room. Blinds can make your room look sleeker and they usually do a better job of keeping the light out.

Hide the Wires

Loose wires look messy so keeping them hidden is a great way to make your house look tidy. Use a small piece of piping or a shower rod and you will see a significant difference. You can also invest in cable management kits which are readily available online and in shops, but why go to this effort when you really can achieve the same impact with some plastic piping or even cable ties!

Invest in a High-Quality Rug

The right rug can really improve your living space. The right rug can breathe life into a room but in the same way the wrong rug can tone a room down. No matter what your preference when it comes to design styles, there is always a rug out there to suit your needs! Like things big and bold, go for a shaggy rug! If you like things to remain a little more contemporary or minimalist, you cannot go wrong with a designer rug from the likes of Katherine Carnaby!

Play with Mirrors

Mirror can add an elegant touch to any room and if you place a mirror opposite a window it will add some extra light making the space brighter. Your room will also feel more spacious with the mirrors reflecting the light. If you’re feeling adventurous add multiple mirrors and it can create an almost art like piece.

Add Some Colour

Adding colour to your home can brighten up your room which creates a naturally uplifting effect. Bolder, brighter colours are fun to use because they breathe a new sense of life that only bright colours can bring. Experiment with different colour palettes and bring a vibrancy that you haven’t seen before.

Don’t Neglect your Walls

Your walls are arguably the most important part of the room and when decorating most people forget the walls or only hang a few things up. Get some gorgeous wallpaper or some decorative art pieces or add a personal touch and paint the walls yourselves.

Bookshelves

A bookshelf filled with books is a nice decorative piece that has a functioning purpose. Organize by author for ease or by colour for a pretty aesthetic. The bookshelf also brings an element of intelligence to the room which can reflect good on you.

Statues

Adding statues can be great if you’re looking to add some different forms of art and with the internet at your disposal I’m sure you’ll be able to find a nice piece without breaking the bank. A statue can also be used to create a focal point that can draw the eyes away from any flaws if there are any.

Metallic Materials

Adding metallic items can contrast with the hue of the room and add warmth. You could get a metal lamp or you could go bold and get a selection of metal statues. Whatever you choose, the metal will reflect light around the room creating a brighter interior and a living space that glows.

Luxury Curtains

I know I said curtains can look bulky but with the right room, a gorgeous curtain can really tie a room up. Curtains that match your furniture always look amazing and once you’ve seen the outcome you’ll never want to go back. Sometimes, blinds just aren't for you and that is okay! Curtains can offer the same privacy you get with blinds and even come with additional benefits like soundproofing and draft exclusion!

Minimalism

Minimalism can be a good way to decorate your home. Use monochrome colour palettes and furniture with crisp clear lines to create the gorgeous minimalist interior that is taking over the interior design world.

Maximalism

If minimalism isn’t your style then you should take a look at maximalism. Use bright colours and buy whatever you want and use it to decorate. There’s no wrong way to do Maximalism wrong unless you don’t love it.

Try the Colour of the Year

Trying the colour of the year can be a great way to improve the interior of your home. The experts at Dulux and Pantone specially picked their colour of the year to bring enjoyment to their customers. Dulux’s colour of the year is Bright Skies which is a mellow blue while Pantone’s colour of the year is Very Peri which is a shade of violet-infused blue.

Add Some Leather

Leather furniture and upholstery is making a comeback. Leather has the ability to offset metals. People are also starting to see the beauty in the texture leather makes as it ages. Leather is also very easy to clean if you have young kids or are just generally clumsy.

Tactile Textures

Tactile textiles and textures are on the way in this year. Who doesn’t love a good piece of art that you’re allowed to touch? Well with these your actually encouraged to touch them. Tactile art is going to be the next big thing in the art world as it’s more inclusive for the visually impaired as well as the art piece looking amazing. The different textures can also help with child development as touching things help them develop their senses and helps them with speech.

Personality

Since people have been stuck indoors, they’ve started adding items with personal and sentimental value to them. Bold items add personality to a room because who want to keep looking at the same boring things they’ve had for years. Things like bold colours, photos and personal style are easy ways to add some personality to a room. Items with emotional significance are starting to appear more across people’s homes as they add authenticity and they bring a uniqueness no one else can bring to your home.

Take a look in Charity Shops

When shopping, don’t rule out charity shops because you might be able to find yourself a bargain. Don’t overlook the older item either because the older items can add some character that can only be added with age of an item. Facebook Marketplace is also a great way to find deals and other items that you wouldn’t necessarily find in a shop.

Get Organised

Keep your home tidy and organized and you’ll thank yourself for it. Get some shelving units or make one yourself with an old ladder and you’ll notice that your room looks nicer since there’s less clutter and more room.

Use Scents

Scented candles and diffusers can be great way to incorporate scents into your home and make it feel more welcoming and homely. With the wide range of smells out there I’m sure that you can find something that will bring some warmth into your home.

Pet Friendly Furnishings

You may not be the only beings living your home so pet friendly furnishings can be a great idea if you have pets and don’t typically like them on the sofa. Having the furniture will make them feel more included and it’s fairer for them because sitting on the floor isn’t as good as a soft sofa or chair.
