The History behind Black Friday

Many people think that the name of Black Friday is closely linked to retail profit margins, or due to the fact it falls on the day after Thanksgiving. This is actually incorrect; the term Black Friday dates back to the late 1800s in the U.S. when two investors increased the price of gold which caused the stock markets to crash with a drop of 20%! It wasn’t until the 1950s when American Police linked the term Black Friday to shopping habits after shoppers and tourists flocked to the city to start the Christmas festivities, buying gifts for loved ones. From hereafter, the term stuck and became largely popular and spreading worldwide!

When is Black Friday? Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving. This year the official Black Friday date is Friday 24th November 2023.
